Crisis Care

Families eligible for crisis childcare benefits must be a resident of Audubon, Carroll, Greene, or Guthrie counties in Iowa. Crisis care is for families who are currently experiencing a crisis or emergency in their lives and lack adequate care for their children. We can provide a safe and nurturing environment for children ages newborn to 12 years old (or 17 if the child has special needs). Our services are available 24 hours a day, 7 day s a week. Your privacy is of utmost importance to us, which is why your crisis is kept strictly confidential.

Crisis a program families may use to relieve stress associated with the responsibility of being a parent; in times of serious illness, accidents or hospitalization; during loss of housing or inadequate housing; for mental health and substance-abuse treatment, and when there has been a death in the family.

The importance of FRC’s Crisis Care Program is demonstrated in the following examples:

  • FRC worked with a family in which the mother had terminal cancer.  She and her husband were parents of a 3 year-old and a 3 month-old. The husband was trying to work when he could, but was also trying to be with his wife during her treatments, as well as taking care of their children.
  • FRC also worked with a mother who was getting counseling because she was at the breaking point with her mental illness and feared she might resort to abuse of her children.

In both of the above instances, FRC was able to provide Crisis Care hours to assist the parents in these dire circumstances, which have literally been a lifesaver to them and their children.

Crisis Child Care covers:

  • Illness or hospitalizations of guardians or family membersChild drawing on paper with markers
  • Mental health issues
  • Substance abuse issues in the home
  • Domestic violence
  • Death in the family
  • …and more
