“Give Where You Live”
From August 26th through September 9th, Maurice’s in Carroll ran a special ”Give Where You Live” Denim Drive, offering 25% off a new pair of jeans to anyone trading in a gently-used pair to be donated to FRC. On Thursday, their assistant manager presented two huge bags of very nice used jeans to FRC to be offered to individuals experiencing adversities such as home fires, job losses, and leaving domestic abuse situations. We thank Maurice’s for this very generous donation, and for their belief in our mission at FRC!
Chamber Coffee
Yesterday, we held the Friday morning Chamber Coffee at our agency. We had a great turnout and shared information about all of our services, including Special Care for Special People, Early Care and Education Projects, Parent Time-Out, and Crisis Child Care.
At the Chamber Coffee, we also shared information about our upcoming 14th Annual Fall Affair, which will be held on Thursday, November 7 at Rueter’s in Carroll. Tickets are available at the Carroll FRC office at 502 W. 7th Street, or from any board member, at a cost of $40 per person or $80 per couple. We hope our friends, neighbors, and community partners will once again come out in full force to join us for one of the most special and fun events offered in Carroll each year!
Also at yesterday’s Chamber Coffee, Derrick Thygesen, FRC’s Chief Financial Officer, shared information about his baby daughter, Avery, two months old. Avery has a rare blood vessel disease with a very grim prognosis, and FRC has been selling “Hope for Avery” T-shirts and bracelets to assist the Thygesens with her medical expenses. So far, we have raised over $7,000 to go into Avery‘s account at Bank of the West in Carroll. If you haven’t already done so, please consider stopping in and purchasing a T-shirt and bracelet to help Avery and her family in their time of need. Derrick also shared that his family received the good news during the past week that Avery has been accepted by Tori’s Angels, a charitable organization helping children in healthcare crises. Going forward, Tori’s Angels will assist the Thygesens with Avery’s medical costs and related expenses.
All of these recent happenings have made us realize how fortunate we are to be living in Carroll, Iowa, where our community never fails to step up to help those in need. Thank you once again, community of Carroll!
